We are proud to congratulate our partner and friend, Reagan Simpson, who is being honored with the Texas Bar Foundation’s 2020 Gregory S. Coleman Outstanding Appellate Lawyer Award. Given in recognition of his 43 years of commitment to excellence, mentorship, and professionalism, the award reflects Reagan’s standing as one of our State’s and nation’s premier appellate practitioners.
The award was established in 2011 to honor the memory of our friend and partner, Greg Coleman, a brilliant lawyer who was considered one of the country’s rising appellate stars. Over the last nine years, the Texas Bar Foundation has used the award as an important vehicle to honor and recognize the state’s top appellate lawyers and to extend critical grants for efforts involving justice initiatives, civic education about the law, victim services, child welfare, and judicial education.
Reagan joined Yetter Coleman in 2011 to lead the firm’s appellate practice and is considered as one of the premier appellate lawyers in Texas and around the country. During his tenure with the firm, his expertise has led to a string of landmark wins for clients, including:
- Protecting $750 million in insurance coverage for our energy client in connection with the Deepwater Horizon oil spill;
- Preserving a $160 million antitrust judgment up through the U.S. Supreme Court for our start-up steel distributor client; for a start-up steel distributor;
- Reversing a $17.5 million tort judgment in the Texas Supreme Court against our technology client; and,
- Shutting down $100 million in asbestos conspiracy litigation by winning six straight state-court appeals in Illinois.
“This is a well-deserved award with deep meaning for Yetter Coleman,” says Paul Yetter, adding, “It is a fitting tribute to Reagan, who is a shining example of ethics and excellence for every litigator in Texas.”
Reagan will be honored in Dallas on June 26, 2020 at the Texas Bar Foundation Award Dinner which is held in conjunction with the State Bar Annual Meeting.
